Entering a Crisis Zone: Firsthand Experiences from Doctors Without Borders
Hugues Robert-Nicoud, Former Head of Doctors Without Borders Global Emergency Response Unit

Description
The Georgetown Chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) invites you to join a discussion with Hugues Robert-Nicoud, who was the head of the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Emergency Response Unit (Geneva HQ) until November 2021. For more than 24 years, Hugues has responded to the world’s natural disasters, armed conflicts, and disease outbreaks at both field and headquarter level.
Hugues will describe his firsthand experiences deploying MSF teams to carry out medical-humanitarian operations in complex settings such as northern Nigeria, Ukraine, DPRK, Yemen, Syria, DRC, Ebola response in West Africa, with a focus on Nigeria and Ukraine. What are the steps involved? How does MSF obtain permission? What are the challenges and issues involved?
Hugues will then reflect on challenges facing MSFs medical-humanitarian action in the next decades.
The event will be recorded and will be available on the Georgetown IAEM Facebook page.

The Georgetown Chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) invites you to join a discussion with Giovanni Salvatori of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Office of Policy & Program Analysis. Mr. Salvatori will provide an overview of FEMA’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, specifically focusing on three key areas:
- FEMA Strategic Plan Development
- Climate Change Initiatives
- Equity Efforts
Following the overview, there will be a limited opportunity for limited questions.
